Alongside modern attractions this city and surrounding areas offers a diverse range of historical buildings and architecture to view with beautiful city parks to relax in and plenty of entertainment.
Around Newcastle there are a number of historic places to visit in the city and surrounding areas such as the Norman Cathedral and Castle in Durham which is known as an icon to England, this building offers it all a cathedral and castle in one built by the Normans for religious purposes then home to the palace of the Bishops of Durham. Behind the castle is an ancient Norman fortress.
Museums
The city has an array of museums to venture to such as the Discovery Museum where to can venture into the depths of Newcastle's maritime history as well as the worlds science history. There are many hands on experiences in this museum so you can learn through play giving this museum a place to go for the entire family. The Shefton Museum of Greek Art and Archaeology includes Roman and Celtic findings but its main focus of objects is Greek.
Family Attractions 
Attractions for the whole family include the Centre for Life where you can find out how we have evolved and who our ancestors are. Blackgate Also how we may change and evolve in the future along with challenges the world may face. Seven Stories is the centre for children's books and is the first of its kind in the country in the building there are original artworks and manuscripts of famous children's authors such as J. K. Rowling.
Parks and Gardens
Leazes Park is situated close to the city centre is some of the oldest green space in the city which has recently been restored it also has a beautiful lake and plenty of space to relax and take in the buzz of city life. Exhibition Park is also a nice place to relax but also offers attractions for the family including a boating lake and skate park along with a children's playground and crazy golf. During the winter there is an outdoor ice rink in Times Square.

Dining out in Newcastle is like no other with superb restaurants and a variety of outdoor cafes there is something to cater for everyone's taste try café 21 to dine with the in crowd or try secco restobar which is set on three stories offering a drinking bar on the ground floor a cafe style bar on the first floor with an outdoor terrace and on the top a stylish restaurant which offers beautiful views and suburb Italian foods. 
Entertainment
For an evening of entertainment the city offers plenty of variety and numerous venues such as the Sage Gateshead which offers live international style music of every kind and also in this building you can view the music education centre set in 26 rooms. The Theatre Royal is has beautiful architecture both inside and out and plays productions from company's such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and West End musicals.

The city offers an array of bars in the centre and a enormous amount all within walking distance so you can sample the variety of bars Newcastle has to offer. Whether you
quiet tavern to sample the traditional Newcastle Brown Ale or a more lively and sophisicated bar to sample the wines and cocktails on offer and for a later evening try the local young loud bars and clubs.
