Alicante
This beautiful city has beaches surrounding the coastline and is a haven for sun worshipers; it has everything you need for a fantastic break away, from beaches to relax on and local shops, to viewing and exploring the history and culture of this city. Also when the sun goes down the nightlife is just as exciting.
History 
The city has a mass of history and culture to visit including the mountain top castle and beautiful ancient churches along with spots where archaeological remains from the third century have been found.
Away from the beaches in the old quarter of the city you can see where the history of the city lays, viewing small streets and multi coloured buildings along with tall white washed houses situated higher up and the majority of the city's monuments stand here.
The harbour is always a bustling place to be, it was once the port for Madrid and shipped products abroad. Today there is still a working fishing fleet and opportunities to sail on passenger vessels and join sailing clubs.
Museums
Alicante has a fair few museums these include; the Archaeology Museum, created in 1932 which hosts an extensive collection of artefacts. The Castillo de Santa Barbara which is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe, it stretches along a large proportion of the slopes of the Benacantil Mountain.
Walks
There are special walks for the hiker in you one of the nicest is The Santa Bárbara Castle Walk when at the top of this mount you can see exquisite views and pick out the city's finest sights.
Beaches
The beaches in Alicante and the surrounding areas are beautiful and some stretch for five kilometres. Along the front strip of the beaches, hotels, bars and restaurants are all available and some even have a golf course within walking distance of the beach. Within the city there are three small coves called Palmera, Cantalares and Judios because these are hidden and quite difficult to access.
Travelling with Children
Alicante offers some entertainment for the little ones including boat trips to Tabarca Island and a visit to the Santa Barbara Castle. There are also nearby theme parks not just for children but thrill seekers of all ages. These include Terra Mitica which is a theme park for the thrill seekers with rollercoaster's and theme rides all based on different countries. Terra Natura which is a safari park as well as having 700 metres of water slides. Aqualandia is also a water park with 20 various water rides for all ages and Mundomar which has interesting marine and exotic animals like sea lions and dolphins and also has a giant aquarium.
Festivals
Throughout the year Alicante hosts numerous festivals including "The Hogueras de San Juan Festival" This festival brings international tourist interest it is done to celebrate the tradition of the beginning of the summer solstice, the dates for it are 20th-24th June. Another festival is "The Virgen del Carmen Festival" which is a maritime festival held at the Club do Regates yacht club on 16th July this is to honour the patron saint of sailors.
Nightlife
When the sun goes down in Alicante the music livens up with salsa and jazz in some bars and in the summer months there is always music on the beach at San Juan. There are modern bars in the areas of Alfonso El Sabio and Explanada. Here you can dine in an exquisite restaurant and enjoy the local cuisine and also dance in the many bars and clubs. If you would prefer to visit the local traditional pub and have a quiet relaxed evening you can visit El Barrio where there are many bars and taverns and each has their own unique style.
