Museums and Galleries

There are a choice of over 20 galleries and museums throughout the city and most of these are free admission, they boast works from famous artists such as Van Gogh and Rembrandt. These include the Gallery of Modern Art this was opened in 1996 and is a contemporary art gallery. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a beautiful building opened in 1902 it holds some of Europe's finest civic collections including items from the natural world and archaeology and The Lighthouse is one of the first galleries opened dedicated to architecture and design, opened in 1999 by HM Queen Elizabeth

There are many architectural buildings to gaze at from historical Victorian buildings to modern stylish designed buildings. The buildings of architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh can be seen throughout the city. The Glasgow Cathedral & Necropolis was built in the 13th-15th centuries and is still in really good condition with the original building still standing.

Glasgow Science Centre is a fantastic place to visit to entertain the whole family it's full of exhibits and has over 300 hands on exhibits and interactive workshops suitable for people of all ages.

Shopping

Some of the best shopping in the UK can be found in Glasgow with three pedestrian walk ways to sample the shops and department stores on offer and also shopping malls with an array of shops for you to sample. On the outskirts you will find more specialised boutiques and unique craft shops.

Nightlife and Dining

Glasgow offers the best food from around the world so you will be spoilt for choice with places to dine. Offering some of the best chefs around in some first class restaurants you can choose what type of meals you would like from traditional Scottish meals to foreign delights.


Glasgow has the best and vibrant nightlife in Scotland and situated five minutes away from the shopping centre is the fabulous west end which is the place to go for night time entertainment you can enjoy shows and concerts of every kind in the various houses and theatres, such as Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.


Its also home to an array of restaurants and bars. Byres Road is the hot spot for night life in the west end and includes cocktail bars and trendy bars to student clubs and nightclubs. There are also numerous gigs and festivals throughout the year such as the Glasgow international Jazz festival in June/July
